Our Boarders

Our boarders are right at the heart of our school. Our community within a community offers girls a balanced upbringing in a safe, family environment.

Boarders come from all over Canterbury, New Zealand and the world, adding a valued dimension to Selwyn House.

The girls make life-long friends, and learn how to live in a close community, developing self-confidence, independence, adaptability and responsibility.

With the added advantage of evening and weekend access to all the school's facilities, the weekends focus on making the atmosphere fun and relaxing. The Boarding House managers are family people and take full responsibility for the girls' happiness, welfare and safety at all times.

Boarding options vary to meet the needs of the boarders and their families, whether on a full-time basis, weekly for the girls who can travel home in the weekends or short-term. If vacancies are available, daygirls are also able to board if their parents are going away and they thoroughly enjoy the experience of 'sleeping over' within the school grounds.

Our New Boarding House:

Opened in March 2010, the new boarding house is a home-away-from-home for our boarders.

Each room comfortably accommodates either four or five girls and features an ensuite bathroom. Beds are decorated with brightly coloured duvets that make the rooms welcoming.

A computer area, close to the office, helps the girls keep in touch with friends and family and girls can complete homework easily in a supervised environment.

The superbly designed open-plan kitchen and dining area also provides space for the girls to access and use – so they can see, and participate in, kitchen activities much like at home.

A courtyard area provides the girls with an enjoyable outdoor entertainment area.
